YOUTH | COMMUNITY -- [ FOLLOWING CHRIST ] -- COOPERATIVE | CULTURE
Many teens never discover who they really are in light of God’s truth -- loved, accepted and very, very cool. At The Mix Youth Cooperative we want teens (Jr. & Sr. High students) to know God feels this way about them and so do we.
Our teen gatherings provide a place to hang out and have fun with friends, while also safely exploring hopes, doubts, fears and dreams. Our Teens meet at various churches throughout the greater Seattle Metro area on Sunday mornings, and then come together as one again midweek on Wednesday evenings, from 7-9pm at OneLife Community Church.
KEY INGREDIENTS | Youth ministries have been around for years and are always changing in style, structure, and vision. We have found that no matter what, at it’s core, a youth ministries students are best loved and formed in the way of Jesus when both Authentic Relationships are joined by Meaningful Formation.
AUTHENTIC RELATIONSHIPS | People are wired to be in genuine relationship with God, themselves, others, and creation. These authentic relationships comprise the very fabric of life, and their wholeness holds the possibility of restoration and hope for individuals and communities alike. God intentionally created a world God wanted to be a part of, and made people in God’s own image out of the abundance of love shared by the three unified persons of the Trinity. With the tragedy of the fall these life-giving relationships were distorted and disconnected; the Imago Dei remained, but was hidden by brokenness and sin. The good news of the Christian faith has everything to do with Jesus’ incarnation and the restoration of relationship made possible by his life, death, resurrection and ascension. God reveals Godself and redeems the world through the genuine meeting of people who are becoming whole. This is the hope of the gospel. In order for human beings to realize the intention of God for their lives, the good news of restoration from brokenness and disconnection, they must enter intentionally and authentically into genuine meeting with others and with God. In this way life can resound with the dynamic process of identities becoming whole and the kingdom of God becoming a present reality.
This happens through students:
Encountering God
Belonging in Community
Dialoguing with the “Other” (people who are different than us)
MEANINGFUL FORMATION | Within the context of authentic relationships, we can participate in meaningful formation together. These are the values that define the substance of a ministry: they pay attention to how students learn and try to offer students a chance to cultivate their desire for God. The substance of The Mix Youth Cooperative’s formation is designed to complement students’ development on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level by alternating between the concrete and the abstract in tangible, interactive, sensory ways:
Ritual, Rhythms & Rites
Dialogical Teaching from Scripture
Kingdom Imagination
Incarnate Justice
